The benefits of the program focuses upon whole body exercise, including development in strength, flexibility and balance coordination, while promoting healthy choices and self-confidence. Classes are structured but not rigid, so that children can channel their physical energy while learning to socialize with other students in a safe and fun environment.

Drawing & Painting

Students will be learning art history while exploring multiple mediums. The students will be continually learning about specific artists from the past while creating their own artwork. They will learn the techniques of the artists and learn to apply them in their own creations. A goal of the class will be to create a work of art for sale at a formal art show held at the end of the 12-week session.

Yoga

Some of the benefits of Yoga include balance, flexibility, strength and marked improvements in body awareness, motor planning, concentration and the ability to relax! We will cover the basics: pranayama (breathing exercises), asanas (poses) and shavasana (conscious relaxation). This peaceful class will practice Yoga with modifications for varying abilities. The goal is to move our bodies, as they are, into or toward the given asana. Every effort is a successful one! If the student requires individual assistance, please include a friend or family member who understands their needs and can provide that assistance. Please bring a Yoga mat (aka. sticky mat) to each class. Dress comfortably with slip-off shoes.

NEW! Parent & Me Yoga: This class is similar to the regular yoga class, but parents are invited to learn and participate alongside their child.

Art

Students will be working with a variety of media, exploring the use of form and color to show their views of the world around them. Each week we will work materials and ideas to help students express themselves in a creative and fun way. Student art work will be displayed at the end of the session.

Dance

Dance Class Level 1: This class includes a variety of dance styles and music selections. This class focuses on rhythm, coordination, creative movement, movement games, stretching, basic dance vocabulary and sequencing of steps. Simple dance technique and traveling patterns are included in every class. Creative expression is encouraged as well as dancing together as a group. Props are used as an additional form of learning and expression.

Dance Class Level 2: This class covers a variety of dance styles including ballet, hip hop, jazz, musical theater, and creative movement. Students learn more complex dance techniques, travelling patterns and choreography. Different aspects of movement are addressed in each class such as: rhythm, quality of movement, use of space. Students are challenged to use their creativity and move beyond familiar patterns.

Martial Arts

This community Martial Arts program is provided specifically for children and young adults with special needs from age 4 to 21. This karate class has been designed to enhance the quality of the students' lives by exploring various "life skills" through martial arts training and principles.  This training is a blend of the most common and popular martial arts.  Students will learn to be focused, disciplined and confident, as well as learning to put their hearts into achieving their full potential.

Music

Music Without Limits: Children ages 6 and up will enjoy a 45-minute weekly music class, covering general music topics such as matching pitch, listening skills, rhythm, keyboard geography, and beginning music notation. Each month's class will have a monthly theme (e.g., dogs, things with wheels, seasons, etc.). Participants will sing, play instruments, listen to each other and to recordings, and do lots of rhythmic movement. This class is open to children who have any type of physical or developmental challenge.

Parent & Me Music: Infants though children age 5 will engage in musical activities together with their parent. Parents will model singing, rhythmic movement, clapping, and playing instruments in a fun music-making atmosphere, and the children will observe and participate at their own developmental level. By experiencing live music created by their parents and other children (older and younger than them) they will learn from an early age that music is a natural gift that everyone can enjoy.

Private Music Lesson with Keyboard: Children ages 5 and up will enjoy 30-minute weekly private keyboard and/or voice lessons. Each student will be encouraged to bring the music out from within themselves, tapping into their natural gifts and passions while teaching them to read music notation, compose, and express feelings through music.
