Bike Camp 2009 - Volunteers Needed

The simple act of enjoying a bicycle cruise on a clear day is a wonderful experience. To feel the warm sun shining on your face and the cool breeze through your hair as you roll by the beach costs next to nothing, and yet is somehow so valuable. Sadly, because of their disabilities, many children never learn to ride a bike and miss out on one of the basic activities most children enjoy.

At last year's Bike Camp, an event co-hosted by UCP of Orange County and Down Syndrome Association of Orange County, over 40 children and young adults with disabilities improved their bike-riding skills, and many were able to ride without training wheels for the first time in their lives. We're happy to have played a small role in giving these new cyclists an opportunity to realize the freedom and empowerment of riding a bike, but the real thanks goes to the volunteers that spent the entire week carefully guiding our "Bike Campers" as they worked their way from training bikes to real bicycles. We are lucky to have such patient and dedicated people willing to help children with disabilities experience a life without limits.

We need volunteers!

This year's Bike Camp will be held August 3 through August 7 at Soka University of America in Aliso Viejo. We will need volunteers to help us with our Bike Campers; download and print the volunteer registration form using the button below. Art Day

Date: Tue 18th August, 09

Each year we hold Art Day, where kids with all kinds of special needs can come and explore their creative side with their peers. This year, we’ve decided to host Art Day on two separate days during our regularly scheduled Art classes. Afterwards, we will have a vote and the winning artwork will be featured on our annual holiday card!

Join us Tuesday, August 18, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. and
Wednesday, August 19, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
